Relay Protection Restricted earth fault (REF) protection is a sensi tive way to protect a zone between two measuring p oints against ear th faults. In applications of high impedance relays a HVR non-line- ar resistor (SiC-V aristor) may be requir ed to limi t the cur - rent transformer secondary vol tage to a safe level during a maximum intern al fault condition . HVR o ff ers a wid e range o f Varistors together with the stabili zing resistor made by HVR Pentagon . Generator De-Excita tion An exciter in a synchronous generator is used to provide the DC supply to the electromagnetic fi eld winding which is mounted on the rotor of the generator. In order to pre- vent damage being sustained t o excitation systems du- ring shut dow n, a suitable discharge un it for th e stored energy in the coil must be available. HVR silicon carbide varistors have provided a relia ble so - lution for De-excitation systems world-wide. Th e uniqu e technology of HVR supp orts customers for most cost-ef- fective solutions. Current T ransformer Unit A major operational risk that can oc cur with a current transformer (CT) is when the secondary circuit has an open circuit condition w hereas the primary circu it is still energi z ed. This could happen during a routine mainte- nance of the b urden or because of damages on leads or contacts. High voltage transients could damage the CT winding which may lead to further d estru ction s. With the HVR Current Transformer Protection Unit (CTPU) y ou can protect y our CT against these operational risks. RC Circuit / Harmonics Attenuation To ensure the protection of transformer windings from discharge after transient vol tages at the transformer t er- minals a s a result of interactions between the transfor - mer, circuit breaker and the load, an R C fi lter between phase and earth is an ideal solution . HVR O ff ers a n ideal solution for th e „R“ of the RC fi lter with its LIHVR series (Low Indu ctance High Voltage Re- sistor). The standard v arian ts of th e LIHVR system range from 1kW t o 9kW..
